James R. Gilmartin joined the corporate department at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz in 2005. His practice primarily concentrates on advising public and private companies regarding acquisitions and dispositions, securities offerings, proxy contests, takeover defense, and general corporate and governance matters, with a focus on banks and other financial services companies.

Mr. Gilmartin graduated magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in 1998. He received his J.D. with honors from the University of Chicago Law School in 2004, where he served as a member of the University of Chicago Law Review and was a member of the Order of the Coif. Following graduation from law school, he clerked for the Honorable Jacques L. Wiener, Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Mr. Gilmartin is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and the American Bar Association.
